Put On Your Shoes of Peace

 

 

The devil is not really after your car or your job or your house. No, not really. He’s after your peace, your joy, your hope, and your faith. He wants to spoil the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control—in your life by tempting you to walk in the flesh.

Decide each day to put on your shoes of peace. Make a decision that nothing is going to steal the peace Jesus gave you. Choose to stay peaceful when the enemy is hitting you with his best shot. Seek peace with everyone around you, even when they are striving against you. Hold your peace!

Use Your Sword

 

 

When the devil started tempting Jesus, we see the perfect example of how the Holy Spirit cooperates with us to wield His sword, which is the Word of God (Luke4:3-12). When you find yourself under enemy attack, pick up the sword of the Spirit immediately. If you cannot do anything more than hold your Bible and read it out loud, saying, “it is written,” do it—and do not stop until you get a hold of your mind. Merely speaking God’s Word out of your mouth will help you gird up the loins of your mind and enable the Holy Spirit to break in and speak to your heart with truth that will set you free from enemy attack.

Put On The Breastplate of Righteousness

 

 

Your own righteousness is like "filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6). Self-righteousness won't take you anywhere in spiritual warfare. We stand on 2 Corinthians 5:21: "God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."

The enemy works to bring a sin consciousness to your soul. You must strive to maintain a righteousness consciousness and ward off guilt, condemnation, and shame that try to creep into your mind and emotions when you sin. . . . You won't fight when you feel condemned. You won't fight when you feel guilty. You won't fight when you feel ashamed of yourself. You must choose to put on the breastplate of righteousness and keep it on. If you sin, don't throw off your armor. Instead run to the Lord and ask Him to secure it. Repent and ask Him for the grace to resist temptation.

Surround Yourself With Truth

 

 

Truth is a weapon, but it is also a defense against the lies of the enemy. Satan is the Father of lies, and he works in the realm of deception. Therefore, it's important that you, as Paul wrote, have "your waist girded with truth" (Eph. 6:14).

 

The enemy can't handle the truth. Hold fast to the truth when lies are hitting your mind. Tighten the belt of truth when it seems the enemy's plans are overtaking God's promises in your life. Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life, and standing on His truth when you've done all you can do will eventually cause the devil to flee.

Use Your Shield of Faith

 

 

Faith produces. We can put a demand on our faith to create a shield—a force field, if you will—against the wicked one’s attacks. Put another way, faith is a substance that creates a shield against enemy attack. . . . Our faith is based in the hope of God’s protection and deliverance.

 

This fervent faith—faith based purely on God and His Word—is a shield that is able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the evil one. . . . Faith is what activates or energizes the rest of our armor. If we don’t believe our armor is effective, it won’t be. If we don’t put on our armor by faith, we’ll run into war ill-prepared to absorb the enemy hits.

 

When you are in the midst of a battle, find scriptures that relate to your specific situation and let them produce the faith that builds your strength to hold up your shield.

Put On The Helmet of Salvation

 

For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak.

But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

The enemy’s thoughts aim to impact your soul—your mind, will, and emotions. The enemy’s fiery darts work to reason your mind out of God’s protection, bend your will away from His plans, and send you on the emotional roller coaster called instability. Your mind commands your body, so if your mind falters in the attack, the enemy can paralyze you.

Through faith in Jesus Christ, you are saved, you are being saved, and you will be saved. . . . The Greek word for salvation can mean “welfare,prosperity, deliverance, preservation, salvation, or safety.” That covers just about every area the enemy works to kill, steal and destroy. When you are settled that God is your Savior, the devil’s mind traffic hits a red light.
