You Are Not Who You Used To Be

There are some people who will count the cost of your standards, your portfolio, or your expertise, and they will be unwilling or unable to pay the price for it. It doesn’t change your worth. It just means they’re not the right ones to receive the fullness of everything you have to offer. S’all good; the same thing happened to Jesus.

Jesus was madd gassed to go back to Nazareth as a hometown hero. If people thought the miracles He performed everywhere else were lit, they weren’t ready for what He’d been storing up for His day ones! Unfortunately, when He got home, they treated Him like a second-rate prophet, and discounted the heck out of His ministry. The whispers were loud and shady. “Who he think he is? Ain’t that the carpenter’s boy? Gurrl, that ain’t nobody but Jesus. I went to school with his sister. Didn’t you change his diaper when he was a baby? So why he acting like he better than us now?” You know it’s bad when Da Good Book says that not even Jesus could perform any good works in that kind of environment.

Just because the Nazarenes couldn’t receive His greatness, it didn’t stop Jesus from actually being great. He didn’t walk around saying, “Deng, I really thought I was the Messiah. I guess that’s a wrap.” Nope. He just kept it pushing, and that’s exactly what you gotta do when folks try to downplay your magnificence. Maybe you’ve gone back home and the crew ain’t what it used to be. Your friends disregard your achievements, and your family is madd skeptical about your life changes. Even your dog is looking at you sideways. Truth is, you’ve outgrown who you used to be, and that’s something to be proud of, not ashamed about. The butterfly ain’t tripping ’cuz it used to be a slimy, sluggish caterpillar. Both versions of you needed to exist in different seasons to get you to exactly where you are now. So spread your wings and fly, boo!
